South Dakota Ranked No. 3 in Preseason Poll

Yotes Receive Third-Highest Total in Coaches' Poll

USD Set to Begin Fall Athletics Schedule This Week

VERMILLION, S.D. – The University of South Dakota volleyball team has been ranked No. 3 in the 2023 Division I Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Tuesday.

The Coyotes received 1,396 total points in the poll, trailing only No. 1 Texas (1,616 points) and No. 2 Stanford (1,535 points). South Dakota is the highest-ranked team from the Summit League, with Denver receiving votes in the poll.

The No. 3 ranking is the highest preseason ranking in program history for South Dakota. The Coyotes finished the 2022 season with a 30-3 record, including a perfect 18-0 mark in Summit League play. USD advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth consecutive season, reaching the second round.

South Dakota will open the 2023 season on Friday, Aug. 25, when they host the USD Tournament at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center. The Coyotes will face Northern Colorado, Montana State and Drake in the tournament.

The AVCA Coaches Poll is voted on by head coaches of Division I women's volleyball teams. The poll is used to determine the seeding for the NCAA Tournament.
